<br />
Either way I had a great time making these Christmas ornaments to give family and friends.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZUYKfiokiSWV0yxKMq92_B42oEPZPHcG_o760v_teYDpXEsIuMZdXWWJOi1XWDXvGqtHkD6v7qmmDuqWJy-hiy-an9KoFFuNc3VXQUgiLUQLCmAD5kKOb1y8jk7PdfDlZ71LZJKWEOk/s1600/Ornament+%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZUYKfiokiSWV0yxKMq92_B42oEPZPHcG_o760v_teYDpXEsIuMZdXWWJOi1XWDXvGqtHkD6v7qmmDuqWJy-hiy-an9KoFFuNc3VXQUgiLUQLCmAD5kKOb1y8jk7PdfDlZ71LZJKWEOk/s320/Ornament+%25231.jpg" width="215" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV27lhOhkQDL8eGPn1m4rX91rn9Zv9y3O7tT3d0LibqkfA4OdrYrjqwAYLYDIDKZkN38k4VxDgQLhuA7Xnh3Ak4bILQzUwB9uaSz2Hb8Xkj-dRgeNQlVgjW90tm8qXJggCMaMrXkOPvtU/s1600/Ornament+%25232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV27lhOhkQDL8eGPn1m4rX91rn9Zv9y3O7tT3d0LibqkfA4OdrYrjqwAYLYDIDKZkN38k4VxDgQLhuA7Xnh3Ak4bILQzUwB9uaSz2Hb8Xkj-dRgeNQlVgjW90tm8qXJggCMaMrXkOPvtU/s320/Ornament+%25232.jpg" width="286" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
These were created with empty Bath & Body Works Wallflowers. The empty glass was the perfect shape for an ornament. Coated with clear drying glue, rolled in "snow" and when dry coated again with the clear drying glue to ensure the "snow" doesn't end up everywhere. I added a ribbon, flower embellishment and mini bells. The hanger are recycled from old broken glass ornaments. <br />
<br />
I hope you find a way to make something out of nothing. <br />
<br />
Happy Crafting!!!! <br />

We are all doing things to reduce our waste. From recycling metals, paper, plastic or glass to finding new uses for our discarded items that are still useful but just not the same as it used to be. I started making angels out of old glass items after I saw one on Pinterest. I fell in love with these. <br />
<br />
A vase turned upside down, something like plates, candy dishes, or banana split boats for wings, a round globe, fish bowl, or round candle holder for a head, and a small bread and butter plate for a halo and you have and angel. <br />
<br />
The trick to making these celestial beings is using a clear, water resistant, and heat resistant glue and not getting it everywhere. Patience is key and finding a way to balance or prop the odd shapes so that they stay put.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDOPnpffTsdk81XFhivZ_aLO-ecqPRsjxHqmUXF5Gal0MqltESgBb84u1LjTLSXuqOaUlrjRVgg6u-VLEtv_7tURAwqHIXrqZZCxeekpVqdDpEMlfalhUpth_HaPtaPfOoRCoCZsSFQNI/s1600/Angel+%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDOPnpffTsdk81XFhivZ_aLO-ecqPRsjxHqmUXF5Gal0MqltESgBb84u1LjTLSXuqOaUlrjRVgg6u-VLEtv_7tURAwqHIXrqZZCxeekpVqdDpEMlfalhUpth_HaPtaPfOoRCoCZsSFQNI/s320/Angel+%25231.jpg" width="219" /></a></div>
<br />
Another trick is finding the right sized items that will work together. The wings should be big but not so big that the overcome the project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkk7xQZRdbrMzvJ3Bp4Fhy_uZIOiem5vFZyVe2VtjhIse6HM-d46WQq1kjSQlD-GhroQ1XgMSzjMoUw6LTMhJOrPaXseg25QtpcKTGb0Mmm41wmNWSfhjOoeu-k99NykPZsH7HK-RdKrE/s1600/Angels+%25232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkk7xQZRdbrMzvJ3Bp4Fhy_uZIOiem5vFZyVe2VtjhIse6HM-d46WQq1kjSQlD-GhroQ1XgMSzjMoUw6LTMhJOrPaXseg25QtpcKTGb0Mmm41wmNWSfhjOoeu-k99NykPZsH7HK-RdKrE/s320/Angels+%25232.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Colors should compliment each other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeE1mkubwo9r5IKsrdu8JkigRdkPTnX6iqP8A_V4RhvSf8o1UKXQh9SfKSrW1X1NqL9_3ZzDhpweDp3FcUnzLc11S9oCPXb99ncD3VtlTYNNl8q4iQOMdfl-BH03r2y4T9D99hdPA8ujM/s1600/Angels+%25233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeE1mkubwo9r5IKsrdu8JkigRdkPTnX6iqP8A_V4RhvSf8o1UKXQh9SfKSrW1X1NqL9_3ZzDhpweDp3FcUnzLc11S9oCPXb99ncD3VtlTYNNl8q4iQOMdfl-BH03r2y4T9D99hdPA8ujM/s320/Angels+%25233.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sometimes you can find on dish that looks like 2 wings. <br />
<br />
These are beautiful used in the landscaping and if you put them over a solar light they light up at night. A word of caution, put them in an area of the landscaping that is somewhat protected so that if a hail storm happens they will not get broken. <br />
<br />
Perhaps there are some of these items that are not longer being used in your cabinets. Don't stop with an angel. You can make many things out of old glassware and the nice thing is each thing made is unique in it's own way.<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting!<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">News in my life includes me going back to school. I start this Tuesday. I am so excited about that. I never thoug<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">ht at my age I would want to go back<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> to school</span></span>.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am also going to be a first time Grandmother sometime in January. My daughter-in-law, Kim, is actually due January 15, 2016. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Also on life events, my daughter, Bree, starts Cosmetology School on January 4, 2016. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We have been a busy family.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">On a crafting note, I have been doing a lot of crafting and thought I would share a couple of the things that I have been making. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Today I am sharing the snowmen. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">These are constructed out of a dinner sized plate for a base. I turned the plate upside down. Then the body of these snowmen are either round fishbowls or vases. The hats are a pillar candle base and a drinking glass. The top hat is accented with half-marbles to form the scarf on the hat. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">ALL of the painting or snow effects are done inside the bowl. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">They are glued with a CLEAR water resistant/heat resistant glue. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I was very pleased with my end result. When the sunlight hits them there are rainbows on the walls. <span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I love making things from things that people discard. </span></span>Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00690783804833338085noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8652902364192608272.post-80979260608580432402015-02-06T11:49:00.000-06:002015-02-06T11:49:34.561-06:00Still Alive and KickingI haven't had much time to devote to crafts of any kind lately. I have not been in the garage to wood work, I haven't been in the craft room to scrapbook, nor have I sat and crocheted anything. The few things I did make have been given away as gifts and I did not take pictures of them <br />
<br />
It is funny how life sometimes gets in the way and free time that normally would be spent crafting is allocated elsewhere and the fun things in life are put on the back burner. <br />
<br />
I am currently recovering from surgery and then come the week after Valentine's Day it will be back to my regular job. <br />
<br />
I hope to get back to crafting soon.Brendahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00690783804833338085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8652902364192608272.post-75421414946806727932013-09-09T08:00:00.000-05:002013-09-09T08:00:04.174-05:00A New Love In WoodI have said many times that I like finding a new and unique woodworking pattern. Not so difficult that I get frustrated but something that makes me say, "I love that!"<br />
<br />
I wanted to make a few more gifts that would "wow" people but still not take weeks to make. I found what I was looking for with a designer named Diana Thompson. She has a site called <a href="http://www.scrollsawinspirations.com/">Scroll Saw Inspirations</a>. That site some of her patterns for sale. I also found that she has book published in the scroll saw family. I was so impressed with her flowers that I had to try my hand at make them. I bought several of her patterns hoping that they were easy to make yet had that "wow" factor that I was looking for. Her patterns did not disappoint!<br />
<br />
I started with the "Vase of Valentine Flowers<b>" </b>pattern. I carefully chose my wood and went to work.<br />
<br />
I used walnut for the vase and oak for the flowers. I also chose colored wood stain instead of paint. That way the grain of the wood is still visible so that people could see that they were indeed made of wood.<br />
<br />
Here is my end results:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers1_zps20342af4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers1_zps20342af4.jpg" width="263" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers2_zpsb41d7fd4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers2_zpsb41d7fd4.jpg" width="315" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here is a couple of close ups of the flowers: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers3_zps2006dc55.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers3_zps2006dc55.jpg" width="373" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers4_zps66df2575.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/WoodenVaseandFlowers4_zps66df2575.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Every component of this project is wood (even the stems and they are also hand cut.) I had a few issues putting those petals together and this was certainly a lesson in compound cutting. Later I found out some tips and tricks for putting those pieces together. I loved doing this project so much that I went back to the site and bought almost every flower/vase pattern the woman has to offer on her site. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't wait to try more of these unique flowers and vases. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy Sawing ! ! !</div>

Those mistakes can either ruin an item or make it look totally different than what was expected or desired. This is one of those instances.<br />
<br />
I love using different colors of stain on my wooden projects. I am not much on painting them. I love the look of natural grains and the earthy brown tons of stain.<br />
<br />
My husband had just brought home a new color of stain called 'Early American.' He explained that this stain darkens the grain of the wood but is lighter everywhere else on the wood. He said he was going to use it on one of the necks of his guitars. He convinced me to try it. I had two projects completely cut out, glued, and sanded that were ready for finishing.<br />
<br />
I was horrified when I dipped the piece in the stain and it turned the entire piece very dark, almost black. I thought I had ruined the little boxes. My saving grace was that these boxes were made from scrap wood and I was only out my time. I just set them aside and figured I would do one of two things with them, either paint them or throw them away. I decided to try to salvage them first.<br />
<br />
I waited to the stain to dry and then decided that I would try to knock off some of the dark stain with my new sanding mop. I was pleasantly surprised that the sanding mop was pretty easy on the detailing of the basket box and left an antique look to the piece.<br />
<br />
Here is a couple of pictures of the end result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/BasketWeaveBox1_zps7efba471.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/BasketWeaveBox1_zps7efba471.jpg" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/BasketWeaveBox2_zps82e8ed5c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/BasketWeaveBox2_zps82e8ed5c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then there was also a square box that I also had ruined with this stain. I used just a regular orbital sander on the sides of this one. Here is the end results of that box:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SquareBox1_zpsc8d1b7b6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SquareBox1_zpsc8d1b7b6.jpg" width="317" /> </a> </div>
<br />
This box actually looks like it is made from different types of wood.<br />
<br />
These two projects were rescued and I am thankful that my time was not wasted. I am also thankful that I was no too hasty in throwing them away. <br />
<br />
I guess this is where I ask you have you made any artful mistakes lately and how did you fix them ?<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting ! ! !<br />

Jersey County Fair!!!!In life there is always a story to tell. My life is no different. This story will forever make me smile.<br />
<br />
I have several hobbies. One of which is my scroll saw cutting. I love to make new and different things. He also has a very creative side. His hobby is making Cigar Box Guitars and odd string instruments. This hobby is new to him but he loves doing it. He has even sold a few of them.<br />
<br />
I have been busy making a few gifts for the upcoming Christmas season. A very dear friend of mine asked me to see what I had been creating. After showing him, he said that I should enter some of my art in the local county fair. In the past I had heard people talking about entering various items in the fair but I had never went out and walked through the exhibit barn to look at what was there. I was always more interested in the food! He explained a little more about the process to me and convinced me to enter a few of my hand made items.<br />
<br />
On the day that I had to take my entries to the fairgrounds I turned to my husband and said, "Grab a couple of your guitars and perhaps there will be a category for you to enter." He laughed at me and said, "Seriously?" Never kid a kidder!<br />
<br />
We went to the fairgrounds only to find out that we would be competing against one another.<br />
<br />
I entered my Fancy Angel and Round Basket into the 'made of wood' category and then my original square basket with the Celtic braid handle into the miscellaneous category. Joe entered 2 of his guitars in each of the same categories.<br />
<br />
He beat me for the first place ribbons in both! I got a 2nd place and a 3rd place ribbon in the 'made of wood' category and didn't place at all in the miscellaneous.<br />
<br />
Here are photos that he took of our items on display at the fair:<br />

<br />
Coming home from picking up our winnings my husband pats me on the shoulder and tells me, "Thank you for the blue ribbon because you were the one that got me to enter." Yes, I was thinking, that could have been my blue ribbon!<br />
<br />
We had a great time and learned a lot about entering items and the different categories that are there. We are both looking forward to next year!<br />
<br />
Have you ever entered items into your county fair?<br />

This pattern came from a scrap booking die that I own. I cut one of these out of black card stock, scanned it with my computer, saved it, re-sized it using Adobe Photo Shop, and then printed it so that it was approximately 6 inches tall.<br />
<br />
This was supposed to be done last Christmas and if you read my last post you know that it was cold in my workshop and I stopped sawing as soon as I had enough for my gift giving needs.<br />
<br />
This one is for me to keep.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/Angel2_zps55d48b38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/Angel2_zps55d48b38.jpg" width="296" /></a></div>
<br />
She was a lot of work with all of those little cut outs but the effort was well worth the end result.<br />
<br />
I have started to play with computer font (dingbats) to make some more patterns for the upcoming Christmas season.<br />
<br />
Find inspiration in out of the way places.<br />

When I had completed enough to give to family, co-workers, and friends I stopped. I still had 3 ornaments prepped and ready to cut out but just didn't have the desire to be in the garage cutting wood when the weather had turned so cold. <br />
<br />
I have been working on those uncompleted ornaments and slowly getting them from the unfinished pile to the finished pile. <br />
<br />
Here is the last of the filigree angels:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/FiligreeAngel4_zps6c476885.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/FiligreeAngel4_zps6c476885.jpg" width="252" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I put kept setting this angle aside because I felt like there was something "dark" or "Gothic" about her. I know that is really not the case but she was not as inviting as the rest of the patterns that she came from. She is now finished. <br />
<br />
I had a friend of mine, who is in a nursing home doing rehab, ask is she could have this angel. Donna said that she loved having the angel that I gave her at Christmas time hang above her bed. One of her aides knocked it off and when it hit the ground she broke. Donna said she always feels like the angel watches over her. So this little girl is now watching over Donna as she does her rehab and works her way home.<br />
<br />
Make someone happy and make a little something just to give away.<br />

I didn't actually start this project at the saw though. I put pen to paper and designed this one myself. It is somewhat rough in the aspect that because I drew this pattern myself, it is not perfect. I did not design it using a computer program (although it probably would have been easier if I had that knowledge.)<br />
<br />
The piece went together pretty easy for me but I learned a few things while making this. <br />
<br />
First I will share the pictures of the basket:<br />
<br />
Front view:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket1_zpsab003503.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket1_zpsab003503.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<br />
Side view:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket2_zps0a8c10d3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket2_zps0a8c10d3.jpg" width="288" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And a view to show you that the handle does move:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket3_zps7a1a04ba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/CelticBasket3_zps7a1a04ba.jpg" width="277" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The finished basket is fairly small. The finished dimensions are from table to the top of the handle is about 7 1/4
inches tall.... from table to the top of the basket part is 3 1/2
inches tall. the basket is 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches square. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point I am not sure how to share the pattern with all of you. I can't get the PDF file to copy here. I am still learning how the "Blog" works.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope that this is an inspiration for all of you to try your hand at designing. The reason that I decided to do this is I could not find a square basket that I liked and could see the basic concept of the design by looking at other patterns. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard1_zps600282b3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard1_zps600282b3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This card was a bit more complex in the making than the previous one. For this one I used a diamond punch, a lace border punch, a butterfly die, several embossing folders, Stickles (glitter glue,) and pearls. I also went a little to the unconventional side of scrap booking and used my sewing machine with a zig zag stitch and white thread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard2_zps8dcbff9f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard2_zps8dcbff9f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This card, as you can see in this picture, has layers, texture, and height to it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard3_zpsf86c04bc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/ButterflySympathycard3_zpsf86c04bc.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The sentiment in this one came from an Internet site.<br />
<br />
I really like the way this one turned out and once I got it all laid out and figured out how to hold things into place so that I could sew it, the process was fast and easy. By the way, the trick to sewing in order that you don't "gum up the needle" on the machine is to place a small amount of adhesive to only the center of each diamond. That tip works like a charm.<br />
<br />
Now that you've seen the scrap lift, and got a tip on how to make the process easier, go try one of these... just imagine the possibilities with different colors of card stock, mixing and matching. This could be used for any occasion as well.<br />

I needed tasteful cards to use as sympathy cards. For ideas I turned to Pinterest for my inspiration. Anytime I scraplift I try to give credit where credit is due but in this case I never did find the original post so I am just going to say I found the ideas on Pinterest and leave it at that.<br />
<br />
I also want to point out that when I scrap lift nothing ever looks exactly like the original because I never have the same materials. So with that said I will just share the first card.<br />
<br />
I used embossing folders, ribbon, brads, a punch, and my computer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SympathyCardFront2_zps26b03d4c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SympathyCardFront2_zps26b03d4c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A full front view:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SympathyCardFront_zps9b255ec8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SympathyCardFront_zps9b255ec8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then the sentiment on the inside of the card:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="234" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SympathyCardInside_zps82b88001.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<br />
The sentiment was geared toward the arrangement that the employees went together and purchased and sent to the funeral home, which was a lantern with a flameless candle in it.<br />
<br />
This shows you that with the white on white effect that you can make a tasteful handmade card for the most serious occasion.<br />
<br />
Happy Scrappin' ! ! !<br />

I've learned a lot about making those little boxes since that post. <br />
<br />
I have made several more of them and expanded on the sizes, shapes, and even finishing them. I've learned to flock the inside, giving them a felted interior. <br />
<br />
Today I am sharing all of the boxes that I've created so far... and there will be more in the future because this is one of the ways that I am using scrap wood.<br />
<br />
This is the last box that I shared with you:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SmallOvalBox3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SmallOvalBox3.jpg" width="301" /> </a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SmallOvalBox1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SmallOvalBox1.jpg" width="289" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
That box's interior became this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/OvalBoxFlocking_zpsd75f2767.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/OvalBoxFlocking_zpsd75f2767.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Then I expanded into round and square boxes:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/RoundRingBox1_zpsafa547da.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/RoundRingBox1_zpsafa547da.jpg" width="237" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/RoundRingBox2_zps44d67c24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/RoundRingBox2_zps44d67c24.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox1_zpsc895ede5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox1_zpsc895ede5.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox2_zps92d591c7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox2_zps92d591c7.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox3_zps6a41f2e3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox3_zps6a41f2e3.jpg" width="296" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox4_zps34a30bd0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox4_zps34a30bd0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox5_zps798ee20b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="235" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/2013/SquareRingBox5_zps798ee20b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
As you can also see all are flocked on the inside and each has a unique knob as well. My compound cutting is also improving with each project that I do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
One last photograph of all of the boxes that I've completed.... I am hoping next round to do a clover, a heart, and I also want to expand and do a few bandsaw boxes. I have a list a mile long of projects.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Mine is no exception and I tend to forget about my blog when that happens.<br />
<br />
My daughter's Senior year of high school has flown by. She is now a graduate. <br />
<br />
My nephew had a horrible motorcycle accident. He is going to recover but has a long road ahead of him. I had to shake my head and smile. When I asked him if he was going to ride again his response was "can't wait." <br />
<br />
New posts are coming your way. New projects in both paper crafting and wood working. <br />
<br />
I am trying to get a few things together and try to post at least once a week. <br />
<br />
Stay tuned and keep crafting.<br />

<br />
I have learned over the years to never throw away something that might be able to be used. I learned this from my dad, Cecil. We always joked with my dad and told him to "throw that away." His response was always the same, "I might need that someday or worse, you might." He took saving things to the extreme! Although I do not save everything, when I am working with wood and I see a scrap of wood from a scroll cut and I always think to myself, "do I save that or throw it in the kindling pile?" <br />
<br />
I love the thought of using odd items or scraps and making them into something. With that thought in mind, my scrap wood pile was getting a bit larger that what I have room to store so I started searching for a project to use some it. <br />
<br />
That is when I thought about my Christmas gift from my son. He and his wife, Kim gave me a scroll saw pattern book called <a href="http://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/product_p/2127.htm">"Custom Wooden Boxes For The Scroll Saw</a>." This book has all kinds of wooden boxes for the beginner to the advanced scroller. In that book I found a few small boxes in different shapes that were perfect for the scraps that I wanted to use.<br />
<br />
These boxes can be made from any wood and a person can make them in several different ways. I glued scrap boards together to form a block and then cut the rings to form the box sides and a scrap of 1/4 inch scrap cut into an oval formed the box bottom. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0KCK7uYCj-bwOmbpE3r2uGKJ9JnsZzQVEAqiGicxyH2a6NwvtMv0z_DVxohVpL_TkkuMycPnyC_QnQlp1RzmEvWdar_XojGqkDLQeMmf_rmOvqwyUl8YD8XdHkga0_GkKf3BUck7a1SY/s1600/Small+Oval+Box+View+8+.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0KCK7uYCj-bwOmbpE3r2uGKJ9JnsZzQVEAqiGicxyH2a6NwvtMv0z_DVxohVpL_TkkuMycPnyC_QnQlp1RzmEvWdar_XojGqkDLQeMmf_rmOvqwyUl8YD8XdHkga0_GkKf3BUck7a1SY/s400/Small+Oval+Box+View+8+.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
The top of the box is formed in the same manner except only one ring is attached to the box top and it is slightly larger than the box rings from the bottom of the box. The knob on the top of the box is a compound cut.<br />
<br />

Here are several views of finished box. The first is an angle shot of the box so that you can see that the knob is compound cut.<br />

<br />
And lastly a front view:<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsLO2Jgpl0ocKjtFPn0ieAb03QMkp_2V-ermeo4YivETRQxsWRxt982VwGNLiv-hiXR2qk9NIQcvODmLhHajPvhCOCSfo5120zeiTehaeWaIx6fmPdPCvJwJn3DVhBxuTg1MtpqEPvqVI/s1600/Small+Oval+Box+View+1.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="367" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsLO2Jgpl0ocKjtFPn0ieAb03QMkp_2V-ermeo4YivETRQxsWRxt982VwGNLiv-hiXR2qk9NIQcvODmLhHajPvhCOCSfo5120zeiTehaeWaIx6fmPdPCvJwJn3DVhBxuTg1MtpqEPvqVI/s400/Small+Oval+Box+View+1.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
This is a relatively a small piece measuring 3 1/2 inches from the table to the top of the knob and about 3 1/2 inches at the widest part of the oval.<br />
<br />
I love the way that the grain in the wood really shows in the ring layers and that each ring (even though the entire box is made of pine and is stained all in the same stain) is a different shade. I was very happy with this project and being able to use some of my scrap wood and turn it into a useful made this project all the sweeter.<br />
<br />
I love taking a page out of my dad's book and saving those pieces of wood that are somehow just to big to throw away and then finding a use for them. I also love the fact that this project did not cost me anything to make.<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting ! ! ! <br />

This also concludes the items that I have made for Christmas gifts. I made two of these heart candle bases with matching charms. One of them is going to my husband's brother and his wife, and the other to his sister and her husband. I just could not come up with a gift idea for them so I made them something and purchased the candle to go with it.<br />
<br />
I am not going to get long winded on this post but rather get right to the wood working.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of the just the base:<br />
<br />

And here is a picture of the candle on the base with the charms tied to it with jute:<br />

I hope that they like them as I put a lot of time and effort into these.<br />

This was more or less to fill in and make my gift look a little bigger. I had previously posted that I made each of the girls in my office a wooden trivet. <br />
<br />
I did a little research after seeing these towels at a local craft bizarre. I found a great step-by-step tutorial on you-tube.com and having some sewing experience these looked so easy.<br />
<br />
Materials were inexpensive, readily available, and I had some of the supplies on hand such as thread and buttons. My materials list was potholders with a loop on the side and they could be round, square, or rectangle. Matching or coordinating kitchen hand towels, color coordinating buttons, thread and of course my sewing machine.<br />
<br />
Here is a the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3cHsIEHH3M">LINK</a> to the you-tube tutorial. You will find that the directions that the girl gives are very easy to understand.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of my finished hanging towels that will be given with the hand made trivets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/HangingPotholderHandtowel1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/HangingPotholderHandtowel1.jpg" width="304" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Just a quick share of another craft that I enjoyed making and would like to get as a gift myself.<br />
<br />
My motto is always give something that you would like to receive.<br />

I didn't have to look to far. I went as far as <a href="http://pinterest.com/">Pinterest</a>. That site is a wealth of pinned items that people have found on the Internet.<br />
<br />
I found an ornament using 3 bottle caps that were glued to a a ribbon but the bottle caps were inverted and harder to work with, so with a flip of the cap I had a smooth surface to work with. Here is a link to that original <a href="http://www.whatilivefor.net/2010/11/bottle-cap-snowman-ornaments.html">snowman ornament</a>.<br />
<br />
As in my <a href="http://brenda62052.blogspot.com/2012/12/snowman-face-ornaments.html">previous post</a> with the snowflake ornaments, I had some crafting supplies that allowed me to stamp the faces for the snowmen. I love that little face!<br />
<br />
Instead of using a ribbon, I drilled holes in the bottle caps and used jump rings to attach one to the next. I also made some plain as in the original that I found on Pinterest, and I made a few dressed up by adding ribbon and snowflake buttons and a few with each style of face.<br />
<br />
Here are my finished ornaments:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowman1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" eea="true" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowman1.jpg" width="230" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowman2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" eea="true" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowman2.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowmanwithscarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" eea="true" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/BottlecapSnowmanwithscarf.jpg" width="252" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>It amazed me how a little piece of ribbon and a button dressed these up.<br />
<br />
So next time you prepare more of an item that what you can use for one craft, do a little searching to see what else you can make using that item and double up your productivity.<br />

<br />
The wood base with charms is a pattern that I purchased when I ordered my wood. I purchased 2 patterns (one with clovers and one with hearts) for these candle bases. <br />
<br />
This first one is a Christmas gift for a very special couple (my son and his wife.) My son is very proud of our Irish Heritage and I wanted to make something that they both would like. Kim, my beautiful daughter-in-law, loves candles.<br />
<br />
This has many hours involved and the cuts became tedious because progress was very slow to see, BUT, the I really love the end result.<br />
<br />
Also a side note for this project, I did not follow all of the directions that came with the pattern because I did not understand them. I do now because of the wonderful men and ladies at the wood working message board. I am exploring and going to try the self-framing method, but for now what I did worked and gave me more practice with my router.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of the candle base:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" nea="true" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another photo of the edge so you can see the router work on the edge:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" nea="true" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And one last photo of the finished piece with the candle in place. I used jute string to tie a decorative bow and hang the charms from the stings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" nea="true" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/CloverCandleHolder4.jpg" width="365" /></a></div>
<br />
One of these days I will make myself one of these. I have yet to make myself anything.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have an abundance of crafting items laying around and decided to play with some of my scrapbooking and paper crafting items BUT not on paper! I forget the mulitude of items that I buy for one purpose and then find other uses for them.<br />
<br />
I have a box of the cheap, glitter, plastic snowflakes that you can buy in any dollar store, craft store, or Wal-Mart. These come 20 to a box and I actually found mine at a resale shop. They were new in the original packaging and sealed. <br />
<br />
I also used some old bottlecaps that I have had in my stash for years and never had any idea what I would use them for but loved them. These were sent to me in a swap. <br />
<br />
The stamps that I dug out of my scrapbooking supplies were part of a die cut set that I purchased from <a href="http://www.scrappingcottage.com/index.aspx">The Scrapping Cottage</a>. I love their products! Here is the <a href="http://www.scrappingcottage.com/cottagecutzsnowmandoll4x4peachykeendesignpre-order.aspx">LINK</a> for the die set that I used. The snowman's pipe on the face is not on the stamp (which I love even more!)<br />
<br />
Other materials I used were spray paint to make the bottle caps white, Copic Markers to color in the nose and to pink the cheeks of the snowman face. Stickles to glitter the edges of the bottlecap so that it pulled the piece together. I also use the clear Aleene's Gel glue to adhere the bottlecap to the snowflake.<br />
<br />
It took more time waiting for the paint to dry on the bottlecaps then it did to stamp, color and put together 12 of these.<br />
<br />
Here are the two differnt ornaments that I made:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/Snowman1Ornament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="367" nea="true" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/Snowman1Ornament.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
These only cost pennies to make and the little ones on my gift giving list will love these! I plan on using them on packages along with the bow or ribbon.<br />
<br />
Just something new to do with all of those tucked away scrapbooking or paper crafting items.<br />

Now it is time for just a couple of other gifts that I have made and I am planing on giving.<br />
<br />
I am showing you just one today. This gift has already been given back in September.<br />
<br />
It was the first thing that I gave away. It seemed like it took me forever to make but that is because I would get tired of working on it and would go between making ornaments and working on the basket. I think that was because of the amount of sanding that was involved in this small project. I did not like the squareness to the cut and I took time to round each band of the basket so it looked more like a natural basket.<br />
<br />
I was amazed at how these baskets are made. It took me a little while to put my mind around the process. A bottom solid piece, 5 rings, a finishing ring, and a handle. The handle turned out to be the trickiest part of the entire process!<br />
<br />
I liked the end result! I filled the little basket with candy, put some netting around it and gave it as a wedding gift.<br />
<br />
Here is the picture of the finished basket. It is small, only about 7 inches from the table to the top of the handle. It was very light in weight. I cut it from 3/8" pine and stained it in natural stain.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/Basket2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/Basket2-1.jpg" width="367" /></a></div><br />
I would also like to share a couple of pictures of the couple that I made this for:<br />

I don't want my new hobby to get stale and I don't want to become board. (No pun intended but you have to admit that was funny.)<br />
<br />
Not everything is flat or lifeless. Many projects have movement and/or dimension.<br />
<br />
Today I am sharing the 3D ornaments and one that has some movement to it.<br />
<br />
This first one is a free pattern that I found on a magazine site that I have to tell you I love! There is a message forum there that you can post issues, pictures, or visit with other wood artist. This site has been a wealth of information for me. With it's many tips, tricks, and many how-to and free patterns this has turned out to be one of my favorite sites. The site is for <a href="http://www.scrollsawer.com/">Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts</a>. Here is a direct link to this first <a href="http://www.scrollsawer.com/patterns/3-d-snowflake-ornaments.html">3D "snowflake" ornament</a>. I used red oak, finished in natural, and the finished size is approximately 4 inches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/3dOrnament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/3dOrnament.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Did I mention I have made a few friends there as well. Everyone at that site are very kind and when I posted my very first project no one laughed at me, they encouraged me! (And that first project wasn't awful but it also wasn't a prize either!)<br />
<br />
The second ornament today I found in a magazine. In fact is is the magazine from the website above. I love that the magazine is full of success stories, articles, and a wealth of ads for useful woodworking products, BUT, you knew there would be a but, I would be lying if I didn't tell you I love that magazine for the pattern! My ornament is cut from red oak, finished in golden pecan, and is about 5 inches tall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/3DChristmasTreeOrnament2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/3DChristmasTreeOrnament2.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
One last ornament today is not exactly 3d but rather one that has a little movement to it. The pattern for this called it a "mobile," but I re-sized it so that it could me an ornament. This ornament has a star suspended within another star. It posed a challenge for me but I love a challenge. I found this at an on-line site called <a href="http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/">Scroll Saw Village</a>. Here is the direct link to the <a href="http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/1026-christmas-mobiles/">pattern</a>. My ornament is 6 inches tall, cut from red oak, finished in natural stain. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/StarinStarOrnament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/StarinStarOrnament.jpg" width="338" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The star on the inside moves back and forth and is suspended there with fishing line. I tried other things like a metal jump ring but either they were not small enough to go through that very small hole I drilled or they were not a large enough jump ring to go through the 1/4 inch wood. (See Challenges! The other challenge was cutting that very small star.)<br />
<br />
That is the end of my ornaments for this Christmas season. I am sure there will be more ornaments made but for now I am moving on to a few scroll sawed gifts. <br />
<br />
Happy Crafting ! ! !<br />

While I am typing this post I am humming "Here Comes Santa Clause"<br />
<br />
Santa, aside from baby Jesus, has to be the most recognized Christmas symbol. He hasn't been lost on the 50 year old! I have been cutting a few the Jolly Old Man, along with a few other Christmas favorites.<br />
<br />
Here are the Santa ornaments that I have busy with.<br />
<br />
The first one is the very first ornament that I cut out. I have cut about 10 of these out this year:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantaOrnament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantaOrnament.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
The next one shows Santa as the "Star of Christmas" for the little ones:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantaStar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantaStar.jpg" width="386" /></a></div>
<br />
And then of course you have the Jolly Old Santa delivering his gifts:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantawithBag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/SantawithBag.jpg" width="291" /></a></div>
<br />
One last ornament today is that filled stocking! Every child loves getting it and some of the best gifts are the small ones that Santa leaves in the stocking!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/FilledStockingOrnament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/FilledStockingOrnament.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My next set of ornaments will be the 3d ones instead of the flat ones. Everyone has to have a little dimension on the tree.<br />
<br />
Happy Crafting ! ! !<br />

I think that there must be thousands of different angel patterns available for the scroll saw. I only wish there was more time to cut more of these before Christmas. <br />
<br />
I've had a lot of people ask me if I could make them one or more of them. <br />
<br />
There are wall plaques, ornaments, fretwork, intarsia, and compound angels. I made several of each of these angels this year. Mine are all ornaments and done in fretwork. I cut 3 or more of each of these. I have 4 or 5 more ready to cut but time is getting away from me and I had to stop cutting so many ornaments and get back to the items that I need to complete for gifts. <br />
<br />
For these angels, I used 1/4 inch red oak and the average size of them are 4 to 6 inches tall. They are finished with golden oak, pecan, and natural finishes. <br />
<br />
The very first angel that I completed is this one:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/AngelwithHeartOrnament2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/AngelwithHeartOrnament2.jpg" height="400" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I fell in love with her and just had to cut several. That was before I started finding all of these other angels! I found them in magazines, books, and on-line. <br />
<br />
Here are several that I found in a Scroll Saw Magazine. There are several more of these filigree angels but these are the ones that I liked the best:<br />
<br />
The first one is the only ornament that I cut using Poplar wood. The grain is not as visible as with red oak but the wood is sturdier. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1426726x800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1426726x800.jpg" height="400" width="363" /></a></div>
<br />
This one and the ones to follow are more of the red oak.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1484705x800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1484705x800.jpg" height="400" width="352" /></a></div>
<br />
This last one I revamped the pattern because I, personally, thought that she looked like she had a set of arms that went up and legs that went down, and then her skirt came from between the legs. I thinned the wing so that it no longer looks like arms going up, lowered the head, and make what originally looked like legs be the arms and she looks more balanced to me. I like the end result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1480651x800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DSCN1480651x800.jpg" height="400" width="325" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally this angel is by far may favorite of all of the ones I have cut. I am not sure if it is the double heart that I like or if it is her delicate features and double ruffled skirt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DouleHeartAngelOrnament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm289/lowcarbgirl62052/DouleHeartAngelOrnament.jpg" height="400" width="283" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As I finish other angels I will post them but this is all I am planning on making for this holiday season.<br />
<br />

I said in my last post that the last two snowflakes would be a hint as to the next post. SNOWMEN!<br />
<br />
I have several people on my Christmas List who decorate with or collect snowmen. I can use these as a decoration on a package (as with all of the ornaments that I have made this year)in place of a tag. Since these are thin I can include them in a card that I mail. I can also give these as a gift or as a party favor. The possibilities with the ornaments are endless.<br />
<br />
There are hundreds of snowmen patterns out there to purchase or swap if you have a friend who designs patterns.<br />
<br />
I love the snowmen because they are a winter decoration and not limited to just Christmas. They can be left out longer than a Santa decoration.<br />
<br />
